  • Notes
    • Kathleen lived in Woodville, Fostoria, Dallas, Arlington, Malone, Waco, El Paso, and Brownwood, Texas, and in Columbia, Missouri. The home address on her death certificate is I 70 NW Drive, Columbia, Missouri.

She graduated from Beaumont High School, Beaumont, Texas.

In 1916, Kathleen's husband was a store salesman, but in 1919 he and his family moved to Dallas, Texas where he entered Southern Methodist University and became a Methodist Minister. He served 25 years in 10 charges in Texas and Missouri including Missouri United Methodist Church and Wilkes Blvd. United Methodist Church in Columbia, Missouri. (His sermons can be found at Southern Methodist University.) He was the son of James Sterling and Margaret Christain (McKee) Tucker. He was chairman of the Boone county chapter of the American Red Cross for two years, having previously conducted the annual Red Cross fund drive for three years, and directed publicity for four years.

He also headed the War Chest drive in 1944 and was appointed chairman of the Community Chest drive in Columbia that year. In addition, he served as executive secretary of the Missouri conference board of evangelism, adult director of the Fayette district, youth director of the Columbia zone of the Fayette district, chairman of the religious education committee of the Columbia schools , secretary of the ministerial alliance, and a member of the board of the Campfire Girls.

Rev. Tucker was a dynamic speaker, a dedicated pastor, and very popular with his congregations. He loved greatly, and was greatly loved in return. He died of heart disease 10 Jan 1947.

In spite of a debilitating stroke at age 29, Kathleen served as a pastor's wife and sang in the choir. She had a beautiful singing voice. For many years she was a soloist. She was a member of the Wilkes Blvd. United Methodist Church.

She lost her father when she was 2, her mother when she was 9 (in a tragic accident). She lost her first born - a beautiful 2 year old boy. She lost all her possessions when her home burned. When she was 49, she lost her beloved husband and was left with a 7 year old son and a son in high school.

Against her family's wishes, for the first time in her life, she went to work -- she worked in print shops, washed dishes in restaurants, boarded University students, and babysat. She helped put her youngest son through the University of Missouri.

She never had any of the world's riches, but she thought she was rich. She never complained or asked for anything, because she was a giver. She loved everyone. She never felt sorry for herself. She was fiercely independent. She owed no one a penny. She was very intelligent and wise, yet she was always a child at heart. She did not believe in thinking old.

All who knew her loved her so very much. Her family and friends will miss her.

She died at St. Thomas Hospital, Nashville, Tennessee of bacterial sepsis as a consequence of leukemia. She was 87 years old.
