Notes |
- In 1865, John purchased 'Canmaroo', a sheep station in Queensland, between Condamine and Surat. A succession of dry seasons saw him lose all his stock. In 1869, he moved south to Victoria, where fortune smiled on him.
Ten years later, he returned to Queensland, with a list of all his Canmaroo debts, which he had not been able to pay by cheque from Melbourne. He located his itinerant creditors, such as shepherds, bullock drivers, carriers, etc. Having satisfied every claim, he sailed back to his homeland, leaving all who knew him to say, 'There goes honest John Munro'.
