Notes |
- Donald enlisted in the 78th Highlanders and rose to the rank of Sergeant. He and Katherine had 8 children. He retired from the army in 1842 and returned to Ross-shire to a croft at Northfield on the Kincraig estate of Roderick MacKenzie.
He was nominated by his Chief, Sir Charles Munro of Foulis, to be the clansman from Clan Munro to sit for a portrait painted by MacLeay for Queen Victoria. It was one of a series of portraits of clansmen from the various Scottish clans. He travelled to Edinburgh to be painted and his expenses which amounted to nine pounds, were advanced to him by the Chief to cover his travel and subsistence for a week. The painting was done in the spring of 1896.
Donald's great grandfather was killed together with his Chief, Sir Robert Munro, and the battle of Falkirk in 1746.
Donald may be the same person as Donald [34065].
