      «i»Rochester -- Elizabeth Eldredge, 83, of Rochester, died at home Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001.

      Miss Eldredge was born Feb. 26, 1917 in Auburn. She was the oldest daughter of the late Allan and Ella Robinson Eldredge. She graduated from Barnard College and John Hopkins School of Nursing. She was a nurse in Beirut, Lebanon during World War II. Upon returning to New York state after the war, she became a nurse with the Westfall Medical Group in Rochester, until her retirement in 1999.

      She traveled extensively, always returning to her summer home in Fair Haven. She was a member of the Sterling Historical Society and served for 20 years as an officer in the Clan Munro, an organization concerned with preserving its Scottish heritage.

      She performed extensive volunteer work for a number of Rochester church and civic organizations and was a frequent contributor to local and world charities, as well as colleges and universities, always asking to remain anonymous.

      Miss Eldredge is survived by a nephew, Jeff (Joan) Baker of Fair Haven; a niece, Kathy Eldredge and husband Dave Tennant of Rochester; a grandnephew, Jeffrey (Darlene) Baker of Oswego; and a grandniece, Caroline Baker of Hackettstown.

      She was predeceased by a sister, Jane Paquette; and a brother, Allan Eldredge Jr.

      A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. today, Feb. 6 at the Third Presbyterian Church in Rochester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fair Haven Volunteer Fire Department, Fair Haven, N.Y. 13064; or World Vision, P.O. Box 40200, Tacoma, Wash. 98481.«/i»
