  Alan graduated from high school with honors and graduated from Butler University (Indianapolis, Indiana) in 1967 "magna cum laude". He then attended Indiana University on a government scholarship and obtained his Masters degree in Government. He was imployed by the Government as an apprentice in Politics, working with the Republican Party.
