Notes |
- John Angus was the first of four children born on the family farm. He attended school in Powassan and worked locally on the telephone line and as a lineman for the Ontario Hydro before joining the air force as a Sergeant based in Montreal. Angus became an electrical technician in the armed forces and when the war ended he became an electrical foreman at a factory in Toronto. He was always taking classes and going to night school and in 1953 he graduated with top standing grades as an electrical teacher for the high school level.
The family moved many times as Angus took teaching positions in Toronto, Hamilton, Elliott Lake, Stratford and several other communities. In 1967 Angus and May began the monumental task of carving what has become known as Munro Park on the bank of the South River. Every weekend for 10 years they drove up form Stratford to work in the park which opened in 1968. when Angus retired from teaching in 1977 they settled permanently in the park. He was active in the comunity and was a member of the Powassan Masonic Lodge, the Legion, the Scottish Rite, the Golden Sunshine Club and as a director of the Ontario Private Campground Association he was appointed to the Acid Rain Commission. He was very active in environmental issues. Angus was fiercely proud of his Scottish heritage and just before his illness had travelled to Scotland to attend a clan gathering at Foulis Castle.
John had grandchildren named Erica Munro and Neil Munro, but it is not known which of his sons were their father.
