- John was a Medical Doctor and Baptist Minister in Salem, Virginia. He moved to Hampshire County, West Virginia.
Sometime before the death of his father, the John received title to his father's farm. After his father died, John gave the use of part of the land to his brother-in-law, William Darnel, in exchange for taking care of his mother for the rest of her life. After her death, John sold the farm to Daniel Payne except for the burial plot of his parents which was purchased by John's brother, George Monroe.
