Notes |
- Capt. James Munro was a colonial receiver and had a shipbuilding business in Scotland and the Bahamas. "He came here from Halifax toward the end of the 1700's with three of his brothers".
He was married twice and is said to have fathered 27 children, many of whom died in infancy. His second wife, Ann, was a seamstress.
He became Postmaster General and was stationed at Sandrill Point, Acklins Island, Bahamas, and not at Nassau because all the mail from England came on warships which called there on their way to the West Indies through the Crooked Island passage.
James left Acklins Island and moved to Harbour Island as collector of customs. He owned Salt Ponds and rum Cay and had shares in some ships, one of which used to run to Liverpool.
His middle name or nickname may have been Edwin. One reference says he died at age 94, but the birth and death years given in another reference indicate that he was about 87.
