  Josiah is a descendant of Hezekiah Meroth who was head of a family that changed their surname to Munroe. He served in the War of 1812 in Capt. Edward Blake's Company, New York Militia, as a private and received a pension. In 1850, he was a farmer living together with his son Barclay's family in Crawford, Orange County, Massachusetts.
