  • Notes
    • Righard Warne (or Warren) Burnet (or Brainerd or Bernard or Burnett) was Headmaster of Wynnton School. He lived in Wynnton, Georgia.

      Family Record Marriage:

In Augusta, Georgia Wednesday night, 17 Jun 1840, at the residence of Charles W. Chapman by Rev. Cunningham, Richard Warne Burnet Munro of Culloden, Georgia to Sarah Smith Ames of Belchertown, Massachusetts.

From "Columbus on the Chattahoochee" by Etta Blanchard Worsley

Prof. R. W. B. Munro is remembered as a classical scholar who saw that his pupils were well versed in Latin and Greek. Born in Scotland, Professor Munro was a highly respected Columbus citizen for many years. His academy was called the "Dames School", and the young ladies used to take walks from the school through the woods to the Robert Carter estate just north of it.

(Note: It is believed that Richard W. B. Munro was born in New York not in Scotland as this passage states. He moved from New York to Columbus, Georgia in 1841, to teach school.)

      Family Record Death:

Richard Warne Burnett Munro, Wynnton, Georgia Monday at the going down of the sun. 29 Jan 1877 - Age 59 years 13 days.

Linwood Cemetery Records say R.W.B. Munro was a "native of Massachusetts, moved to Columbia, South Carolina, came to this city about the age of 20, school teacher, leaves wife, 3 children."

Richard W. B. Munro kept diaries which are in private hands.

One reference says he died in Columbus, Georgia.

His wife, Sarah, was the daughter of Abel Ames and Sarah Smith. She lived in Belchertown, Massachusetts and Wynnton, Georgia.

There are some problems with this family. At least one of the children is listed as being born three years after Richard's death.
