Notes |
- William had an 1802 copy of a math book with the entry of "New York" in it. He would have been about 16 years old in 1802 so he may have attended school in New York.. He got his medical degree on 2 Feb 1813 in Oneida County, New York .
He went to Delaware County, Ohio in 1814 where he was a medical doctor. His estate was probated on 15 Oct 1821 in Butler County. After his death, his wife moved back to Delaware County where she married Dr. John Loofbourow in 1831. After the marriage they moved to Iowa County, Wisconsin. He was a Baptist.
William undoubtedly had other children that we have not found.

«i»Medical degree Feb, 1813 in Oneida Co., New York. Died in 1818 young age near Cincinnati, Ohio. Married Harriet Thurston
perhaps born in New York. Father listed as Lemuel but unclear whether Lemuel from the Virginia Monroes or Lemuel Monroe born 1757 in Lexington, MA.
WILLIAM MONROE unclear if this is our Monroe. What would he be doing in Cincinnati in 1810 since he was in Oneida Co. getting his medical training.

SOME ARTICLES WILLIAM MONROE I, M.D. SAY DIED OCTOBER 10, 1818.
Dr. MONROE II, was born July 30, 1818, near Cincinnati, Ohio, son of William and Harriet (THURSTON) MONROE, both natives of New York. They had two children, Lucy Ann and William, the former of whom married Major Robert W. GRAY, of South Carolina, and is now deceased. "The father (Dr. William Monroe I) was a student from boyhood, and when he became a man took up the practice of medicine, which was his calling throughout life. He prepared for his professional career in New York, and practiced in Ohio, dying near Cincinnati, when his son William was an infant of two months. His widow married, in 1831, Dr. John LOOFBOUROW, and died in 1835, when forty-six years old. She and her first husband were members of the Baptist church. Lemuel MONROE, the grandfather of our subject, was a veteran of two wars, the Revolution and the war of 1812. He lived to old age, was twice married, and had children by both wives. Daniel Green THURSTON, the Doctor's maternal grandfather, was of English descent, and was a relative of Gen. GREEN, of Revolutionary fame. By occupation he was a farmer. He reached the age of eighty-two, and was the father of fourteen children." From the Centennial article Green Co., Wisconsin History
He died without will so that the administrators Hesekiah Smith and Harriet Thurston Monroe took inventory of his estate and sold his goods and "chattel" at Mechanicsburg, now Westminster Ohio (Butler Co.) Mr. Smith was a Baptist Minister and the founder of Mechanicsburg.
On the membership roles 1817 with wife and sister in law Mary Thirston of the Columbia Baptist Church. «/i»
