Notes |
- John inherited 40 acres of land from his mother and in 1885, he bought 45 acres more. He improved this property and it was considered one of the best farms in Butler Township. In 1884, he built a commodious frame house and added other substantial buildings. The great barn was completed in 1904. The farm bore the pleasant name of the Clover Leaf Farm. He carried out general farming, some darying and produced fine livestock.
He was one of the leading members of the Radical United Brethern Church, where he served as a class leader and a trustee. He was a man, who on account of the uprightness of his character stood very high in the estimation of his fellow citizens.
He married the daughter of Gratz M. and Mary J. Johnson. She was living in Mercer County, Ohio in 1869. She was a lady of beautiful Christian character, a faithful member of the United Brethern Church from the age of 20 years, a devoted wife and mother and a kind and sympathetic neighbor.
