  • Notes
    • Josiah is a descendant of Hezekiah Meroth who was head of a family that changed their surname to Munroe.

Josiah and Catherine were married at Trinity Church in New York City, New York.

His war record is impressive and lengthy. He enlisted from Dorchester on 5 Dec 1776 and was described as 5' 10" tall, light complexion, light hair, and blue eyes in one listing, and dark in another. He served from 1 Jan 1777 to 31 Dec 1779 in Capt. Samuel Foster's Company, Col. John Greaton's 3rd Regiment, also in Dec 1777 at Albany in the same regiment. He was on a muster roll at White Plains, 20 Jul 1778 and in Aug of that year. In Sep 1778, he was with the same Company and was in different assignments throughout 1779. In short, he was almost a professional soldier during four years of the Revolutionary War.

He applied on 18 Apr 1818 for a warrant on the basis of his military service, and his widow applied on 1 Aug 1828 in Orange County, New York for a pension.
