    • William served on the Mexican border against Pancho Villa in 1916 and in World War I in France as a sergeant in the 1st Batallion of Scouts, 127th Infantry Regiment, 42nd Division, A.E.F.

      He graduated L.L.B. from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and then served as an attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice. He was a genealogist and wrote numerous historical articles. He was a member of the Society of the Cincinnati in the State of Virginia.

      He and Lillian were married by Rev. Thomas Bryant Smith, the father of the bride.
