  Sybil was the daughter of William and Sybil (Smith) Borden, a distinguished family of Portsmouth, Rhode Island. She is found on the 1850 census of Columbia, Pennsylvania. The census says that she was 75 years old, had $1500 in property, and worked as a "manager of farms."
