• Notes

  In the 1850 census, Stephen was a farmer in Parma, New York with $6200 in property. Stephen's second wife was the widow of James Pease. The following is from the Diary of Jane Palmer: "Died in Parma Monday morning November 15, 1869 Stephen Munroe aged 88 years. Was born Groton, Mass. 1781 - removed to Parma 1814. "OBIT. "An old settler gone: Died - In Parma, Monday morning, Nov 15th, Stephen Monroe, aged 88 years. Mr. Monroe was born in Groton, Mass. in 1781 and removed to Parma in 1814, bought a farm of the then Holland Land Company and has lived there on the same farm until his death" He was buried in Knapps Cemetery now known as Sage Pioneer Cemetery.
