Notes |
- George was a Master Mariner and Captain of his own sailing vessel. He sailed from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada to China.
While he was in port in Vancouver, he saw a picture of Katherine Loretto Carroll. After some correspondence he sent her money to leave Chicago, Illinois and come west. She was to bring a member of her family with her and she took her youngest sister, Star.
George boarded the train one stop before she was to disembark and hired a stateroom. Upon seeing her he said "Kitty Carroll, you are looking at the original George E. Monroe. If what you see, you like, then kiss and bind the bargain. If not I have the money to send you home." They were married on 8 Aug 1888 in Vancouver and she sailed with him.
