- George went to sea when he was in his teens. By the time he was 25, he was chief engineer in the merchant ships. After he married, he operated a marine repair shop, called Wymo, in Brooklyn, New York. He had served with the Merchant Marine during World War I on supply ships. During World War II he was Superintendent of Machinery with Consolidated Shipbuilding Corporation in Orange, Texas, building destroyers for the Navy.
For many years he operated a plumbing and heating business in Dansville, New York, and for over 15 years, he and his wife operated a motel in Wayland, New York. He also served as welfare officer for Wayland for seven years.
He was a member of Metropolitan Lodge 273, F & A. M. in New York City, and Warren Patchin Lodge 883 in Wayland.
