- Hugh sold the estate of Inveran.
He served as Commissioner of Supply for Sutherland in 1704.
He entered the army and served as a lieutenant of a Foot Company in Flanders. From there, he went with the Canada Expedition against the French in 1711. He settled in New York (ref. (2) says Nova Scotia) where he married and had children.
