- Error alert: One reference says James was the son of Col. Robert Munroe (b. 23 Dec 1716), but other references say Col. Robert was James' grandfather. The parents of James Munroe have not been positively identified.
James moved from Scotland to America in 1781 when he was 17 years old. He was a farmer in Romulus, New York.
