• Notes

  John Munro of Kiltearn and his five brothers were known as "Sliochd Alasdair mhic Huistain." Although John was the fourth son, for some family reason, he succeeded his father and inherited the Kiltearn estate. He was portioner of Kiltearn having the south or nether half while his brother, Farquhar had the north or upper half. Robert Munro, fifteenth Baron of Foulis, "disposed in feu and for service the lands of Kiltearn" to John. John died near the end of the 16th century. ********** The following is a transcription of RW Munro's genealogy notes: [Alexander Munro] «i»Fourth son of Hugh Munro of Coul (fl 1492), & first by second wife Jane Cattanach; founder of Munros of Kiltearn, or 'Sliochd Alastair Mhic Uistean'; m. Janet, daughter of Farquhar Maclean of Dochgarroch line (?Bishop of the Isles ), with issue - Donald (High Dean of the Isles, fl 1526/1575). Hugh (Ferrytown of Obsdale).
