In 1587, King James VI granted to Robert the sum of 30 pounds per year for seven years for his "better education, and virtue, and good letters" at the chaplainry of dunskaith in Nigg, and Arpafeelie in Killearnan.
He had a precept of clare constat of the lands of Teaninich from John Keith of Ravishcraig, dated at Edinburgh 20 Jan 1603, and a sasine dated 19 Aug 1604. He also had a precept of clare constat from John Urquhart of Craigfintry of the lands of Tearivan dated 11 Jan 1608, and a sasine dated 1 May 1608.
By a charter of alienation dated at Tain on 9 Mar 1626, he granted his son, Hugh, the lands of Teaninich.
He died before 1641.
