Notes |
- The wife of David Munro of Meikle Allan was the daughter of John Davis of Whitehall (near Carrickfergus), and the granddaughter of Sir John Davis, attorney-general for Ireland.
One reference says "Captain D. Munro of Meikle Allan in the Earl of Rothes Horse was slain at the Battle of the Boyne." But he was dead by 1674.

"Andrew of Meikle Allan married Marion daughter to Mr John Ross of Little Tarrel by whom he had David and John and three daughters Christan Janet and Helen."
Ref: "The Munro Tree (1734)" by R. W. Munro - L/95
"David Munro of Meikle Allan married a daughter to Davies of Whitehall by whom he had John Andrew and Joseph."
"This version from Teaninich and Culcairn copies has been preferred to the original MS, which is overwritten to read: 'Captain D Munro of Meikle Allan in the Earl of Rothes Horse was slain at the Battle of the Boyne. He married a daughter of Davis of Whitehall and had issue'. But David was dead by 1674; his widow Marie Davis, mother of his son John, was living 1692, her father said to be John of Whitehall near Carrickfergus son of Sir John Davis (1569-1626) attorney-general for Ireland."

[Note: R. W. Munro says that David was dead by 1764 ("The Munro Tree (1734)" by R. W. Munro - (1978) - L/95) so he could not have been slain at the battle of Boyne in 1690.]
IV. David Monro, who, born in 1640, entered the army, and was Captain of a regiment of horse raised by the Earl of Rothes, in which he served for some time in Ireland, where he was killed at the battle of the Boyne in 1690.
On his death in 1690, Captain David was succeeded by his eldest son, V. John Monroe,
