      "George m Mary dr of Gen Scot of Invernethid yr bro of Thomas of Davidston; "Ross and Mackenzie apply this to son John, but original MS clearly refers to George."

      Ref. (1) says John was castaway at sea on his way to Germany to enter the Swedish service, but this is wrong. It actually happened to his father.
