Notes |
- Richard served as a soldier in the American Civil War under Captain John Sampson. He was wounded in the first battle of Bull Run by a gunshot through the leg. He was taken prisoner and lodged in Alens House in Richmond, Virginia. After a prisoner exchange, he was granted a furlough home because of his injury. He was later examined in Washington and granted a discharge.
