Notes |
- George enlisted in the Union Army at the same time as his brother David, and their service was the same throughout.
He composed music, mainly for quartet singing, which was very sweet and harmonious. About 1932 Reinold Werrenrath produced one of his pieces on the radio announcing it as by "George M. Monroe--a splendid example of close harmony."
After the war, about 1882, he went to Florida on a hunting trip. There he contracted malaria and died. His brother David went to Florida and brought the body home.
