  1. 4.  Isaac Monroe was born in 1745 in Canterbury, Windham Co., Connecticut, USA (son of Samuel Monroe and Abigail Read); died on 1 Aug 1825 in Plymouth, Chenango Co., New York, USA.

    Notes:

Isaac lived in Pomfret from 1768 until after 1785, in Brooklyn in 1800 and in Greene, Chenango County, New York in 1818.

He was a private in the Revolutionary War, first in 1775. When the Lexington Alarm sounded he responded and served with the militia near Boston for twenty days, afterwards he enlisted in Pomfret, 1 Jan 1776, and served one year in Captain Grosvenor's company of Colonel John Durkee's regiment.

In May 1798 he purchased a fulling mill in Lebanon, Connecticut, from his son Dan and sold it to James Sexton the following year by deed witnessed by his son Dan and daughter Lucy.

In 1818 he applied for a pension which was granted in 1820. He was a soldier by trade. His application was supported by affidavit of his brother William and his comrade in arms, Jonathan Crane. His own affidavit, sworn to in 1820, states that he was a saddler by trade, with no family, unable to labor, in indigent circumstances and residing with and supported by his son Joseph in Greene.

His name appears on the records in Pomfret and Brooklyn and on the index to the deeds in Lebanon as Isaac Row. In the body of the Lebanon deeds his surname is spelled Mon Row and Munrow. The latter spelling of his surname appears in his signature, also in that of his son Dan and daughter Lucy, witnessing the deeds to James Sexton. Notwithstanding these discrepancies in spelling his surname upon the records, his identity is amply proven by the affidavit of his brother William Monroe, stating that he and Isaac were brothers, also by existing family records, among which are his son Joseph's family Bible in the possession of E.L. Monroe in Columbus, Pennsylvania stating that Joseph was born 25 Sep 1776 and separate family records prepared by each of his grandsons, Dyer Monroe, and James Sexton Monroe, the former now in the possession of Dyer's grandmother, Mrs. Estella Hughes in Plymouth, New York, the latter with James Sexton's daughter, Mrs. Ella M. Axline of Ada, Ohio, until her death in 1930. Each of these two records state that their father, Dan, son of Isaac Monroe, was born in Pomfret 22 Aug 1774. These dates exactly correspond with the dates shown by the Pomfret records when sons Joseph and Dan were born to Isaac Row.

Isaac died at the home of his son Dan Monroe in Plymouth, New York.
