1. | Frederick Monroe Baker was born in 1887 in Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio, USA (son of Rev. Delos Richard Baker and Georgiana Beecher); died in 1970 in Barre, Washington Co., Vermont, USA. Notes:
Frederick "Fred" finished high school in Cincinnati, Ohio and then went to work for the railroad in Columbus, Ohio. After his marriage, he moved to Chicago, Illinois where he worked for the Chicago Bears football team.
In 1920, he bought a farm outside Delaware, Ohio. He raised vegetables and fruit to supply the college dorms of Ohio Weslyan University in Delaware, Ohio.
In about 1928, after a disasterous winter to his stock and chickens, his brother, Earnest asked him to come and hilp him with his business, the Parkes Ball-bearing Machine Company in Cincinnati, Ohio, which he reluctantly agreed to do. He rented a home in College Hill on Cedar Avenue, not far from Earnest's home. Not long after this, Earnest died and the plant was sold. Frederick got another position as accountant with Steubing-Cowan Lift truck Company. This company was bought by the Yale & Towne Manufacturing Company during the depression. Because of this buy-out, the family was moved to Philadelphia at the expense of the new company.
After World War II, Frederick retired to tend his 5-acre orchard in Abington by Foxchase in Philadelphia. He later moved to Marshfield, Vermont.
Frederick was in many lines of work: Vegetable gardener, accountant, official of Yale & Towne Manufacturing Company, and retired to orcharding of fruit trees in bington, Pennsylvania. He was also an adept mechanic.
Late in life, Frederick moved to Vermont to enjoy the scenery and air there. After spending several years in Marshfield, Vermont, he died at the hospital in Barre, Vermont during a record snowstorm.
