    «i»Monroe, Lloyd Raymond - Died May 13, 2002 at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital of pulmonary fibrosis and complications. He was born august 15, 1917 in Pleasantville, PA. He was active in the oil industry, beginning his career working for his father on the lease in the oil fields. He graduated from Grove City College, PA in 1940 Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Chemical Engineering. July 1940 he started to work for Exxon in New Jersey. He married Esther Geraldine Cook June 26, 1940. In 1945 they went to Aruba, Netherland Antilles for Exxon to work for Logo Oil and Transport Co., At the time they had three sons and two more sons were born in Aruba. In 1967 they returned to the states. he worked for Bechtel in San Francisco in the Chemical and Refinery division. He lived 11 years in Menlo Park, CA and 11 years in Lake County on Clear Lake in "Riviera West". February 6, 1990 they moved into Spring Lake Village in Santa Rosa, CA. He is survived by his wife, Esther of Spring Lake Village, Santa Rosa, CA sons Lawrence David Monroe of Denton, TX, Rev. Douglas James Monroe of Reno, NV, John Thomas Monroe of Alameda, CA and William Kent Monroe of Boulder Creek, CA, seven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and two step great grandchildren. One son, Rev. Richard Lee Monroe died in the fall of 1999.

    «i»Victor Garfield Monroe, 89, died at his home at Pleasantville, RD 2, early Sunday morning.

    He was born Nov. 8, 1880, in Shamburg, the son of W. H. H. and Rebecca Thompson Monroe and was a life-long resident of the Pleasantville area where he was active in church and community organizations.

    He was an independent oil producer in the Shamburg field until his retirement, having worked previously in the West Virginia and Oklahoma oil fields. In recent years he was widely known as a piano tuner and had worked at this hobby until a week before his death.

    His civic activities included 25 years as a Boy Scout leader in Pleasantville, a member of the Pleasantville School Board, board of directors of the former Citizens Bank of Pleasantville. He was also a member of the Blue Masonic Lodge 754 and the Rotary Club of Titusville.

    Mr. Monroe was always active in church and religious affairs of the community and served as president of Venango County Organization of the Pennsylvania Sabbath School Association. He was Sunday school superintendent for many years at the Shamburg Christian Church which he and his family were instrumental in founding and constructing.

    He had also directed choirs in various surrounding churches.

    Mr. Monroe's wife, Leota Lytle Monroe, died in January of 1945.

    He is survived by the following children: Mrs. Fred (Gladys) Fogle of Pleasantville, Dr. Harry Monroe of California, Pa., Wayne L. Monroe of Sharon and Lloyd R. Monroe of Menlo Park, Calif, there are 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

    Friends may call at the Raymond W. Arnold Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and attend the funeral service there at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. David Lingle of the Pleasantville Presbyterian Church officiating.

    Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery at Pleasantville.

    Mr. Monroe also worked as a piano tuner. He was a Boy Scout leader for 25 years, a member of the Pleasantville School Board; board of directors of the former Citizen's Bank of Pleasantville; member of the Blue Masonic Lodge 754, and the Rotary Club of Titusville.

    Victor G. Monroe

    The funeral service was held Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. for Victor G. Monroe at the Raymond W. Arnold Funeral Home. Rev. David Lingle of the United Presbyterian Church of Pleasantville officiated and was assisted by Rev. Warren Helms of the Shamburg Christian Church.

    Interment was in Fairview Cemetery in Pleasantville with the following serving as pallbearers: George Hummer, Harold Benedict, E. D. Gifford, Charles Sampson, William Fleming and John Fleming.

    Honorary pallbearers were John Fehrenbach, Coy Hogg, Robert Voorus and William Roth.

    People attended the service from Menlo Park, Calif, Buffalo, N.Y., Angola, N.Y., Kenmore, N.Y., Sharon, Erie, Corry, Sharpsville, Farrell, Indiana, Pa., and Parkersburg, W.Va.

    Members of the Rotary Club called as a group on Tuesday afternoon and Masonic services were held on Tuesday evening by the Titusville Blue Lodge. F & A.M., Member 754. Officiating at the Masonic service were James Hughes, worshipful master; Richard Lundgren, senior warden, William Muirhead, junior warden; and Fred Collins, chaplain.

    Victor G. Monroe was quite a remarkable man. Physically, at 89 he was spry and active until almost the very end. Mentally, he had a quick, keen mind. Spiritually, he helped found a church. It is hard to beat that list.

    And as to public service, few communities have many who are as busy. It will be difficult for a whole host of people around here to become accustomed to not seeing him or reading about his activities.«/i»

    Victor G. Monroe

    Victor Garfield Monroe; Pleasantville, RD 2, Venango County, Pa., who until his retirement had been as independent oil producer in the Shamburg, Pa., oil fields, died at his home early Sunday. He was 89.

    One of his sons, Wayne L. Monroe, lives in Sharon.

    In recent years Mr. Monroe had won a wide reputation as a piano tuner and worked at this hobby until a week before his death.

    He and his family were instrumental in founding and building the Shamburg Christian Church of which he had served as Sunday school superintendent for many years.

    The ex-oilman had also worked previously in the oil fields of West Virginia and Oklahoma.

    He was the son of W. H. H. and Rebecca Thompson Monroe and was born in Shamburg on Nov. 8, 1880.

    Mr. Monroe had been active in church and civic affairs. He was a former member of the Pleasantville School Board, a former member of the board of directors of the former Citizens Bank of Pleasantville, now a branch of Pennsylvania Bank and Trust Co., Titusville, Pa.

    He had served as a Boy Scout leader in Pleasantville for 25 years. He was a member of the Titusville Rotary Club, Masonic Blue Lodge No. 754, Titusville, and had served as president of the Venango County organization of the Pennsylvania Sabbath School Association. He had also directed choirs in various surrounding churches.

    Mr. Monroe's wife, the former Leota Lytle, died in January 1945.

    Besides the son in Sharon, he leaves one daughter, Mrs. Fred (Gladys) Fogle, Pleasantville; two other sons, Dr. Harry L., California, Pa., and Lloyd R., Menlo Park, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.«/i»
