She was baptised "Christian" in Inverness Parish Church on May 16, 1826, child of John Monro and Isabella MacKay.

She came to Canada with her parents in 1832. They first settled in Penetanguishene, Ontario where her father worked on the building of the military barracks. He was a millwright and carpenter by trade. They then moved to Barrie where he took the contract of building Sanford's store. When finished, it was considered to be the best built building north of Toronto.

Christiana's chief concern was her home and family. Like other wives and mothers of her time, she spun the wool and wove the cloth, from which she made her husband's and children's clothing. Candle power was common lighting in those times, the candles were made in the home.

She often sewed or knitted by the light of the fireplace.

She was a good neighbor and kind friend, it has been said she would at any time of day or night, respond to a neighbor's call for assistance in time of trouble or sickness, whether or not the weather was fit for man or beast.

She was the Mother of eight boys and two girls, all of whom grew up to be useful citizens, and rendered distinguished service in the communities in which they lived.

He did the carpentry work on the Shanty Bay Church before moving to his farm on the 7th concession of Vespra.

Excerpt from a letter written by Aunt Belle (Isabel Sneath), dated 12/8/47:

"Grandfather Munro came from Inverness, Scotland. He was in the Napoleonic War with the Seaforth Highlanders, rank, a Lieutenant. After returning, he belonged to the Life Guards in London which gave him officer's rank. He came to Canada in 1830 and went first to Penetang where a British regiment was stationed -- came to Barrie in 1834 and took up the farm on the 7th Line of Vespra in 1835. He was killed there by a falling tree in 1845.

Grandmother died in 1881, aged 93".

In 1831, John Alexander petitioned the government of Upper Canada for a land grant based on his military service. The petition documents state that the land was granted based on seven years of military service. He also petitioned for a school in Barrie.«/i»
