Henry Dennis may have been the toughest Kasson of all. Growing up near Lovelton, he helped his parents clear land and farm at a time when there was no farm machinery. He then served in the Union Army in the 52nd Pennsylvania Volunteers during the Civil War as a combat soldier for four years in Virginia, Georgia and the Carolinas leaving the service with the rank of Sergeant. He then settled from scratch two different homesteads in Nebraska - one with each wife. The first of these in 1873 was near Beaver City, (near Lexington) Nebraska whereas the second was 2 miles south of North Loup, Nebraska in 1882. They dealt with Indian uprisings, blizzards, drought, grasshopper swarms and other challenges that settlers of the Great Plains faced.
In 1929, after Henry Dennis died, the farm was sold for $100 per acre. Louisa Mary moved to a house in North Loup, Nebraska. She passed away on 26 May 1932 in Ord, Nebraska. Henry Dennis Kasson and his wife Louise Mary (Weber) Kasson, were buried in the Scotia Cemetery in Scotia, Nebraska.
