    Notes:

Samuel's place of birth may have been any of the following: Tryon County, Dutchess County or Rensselear County, New York; "along the Hudson River" or Scotland (ref 1). An 1880 Michigan census of one of his sons, lists Samuel Munro, born New York. He was probably a discharged soldier of the French and Indian War because he was living on bounty warrant land at Hoosick and Waloomsack east of the Hudson River before the American Revolutionary War. He might have been in the group of Highlanders brought by Sir William Johnson to settle in Johnstown, New York in 1773.

He was a United Empire Loyalist whose children received Loyalist land grants. According to Sam Sherwood, "He joined the Royal Standard before the Treaty of Separation in 1783." He fled to Canada between 1775 and 1783 and settled first at Yonge, Leeds County, Upper Canada and later at York (Toronto).

His first child was born 1798.

In 1805, he was living in the Brockville, Ontario area, where Sherwood had been a merchant since 1790.

He served as a sergeant in the War of 1812 in Captain John Howard's Company, 1st Regiment Leeds Militia from 25 Sep 1812 to 24 Dec 1812; as a private in Captain Andrew Adams' Company of Provincial Light Dragoons from 10 Apr 1813 to 24 Sep 1813; and as a private in Captain Richard D.
