John Dustan Munro accompanied Charles on one of his trips. From some notes provided by Jamesina (Ina) Donaldson (of Mosstodloch, Moray) in a letter dated 3 December, 1997 to Margaret Price.

Ina Donaldson in a letter dated 27 February, 1998 to Neva and Jim Munro, says that she has a photo of Charlie with his hat and overcoat over his arm. It arrived about Christmas time and Ina's mother, Annie, was in bed very poorly. The post was very late, just the byke at that time and having a few drams didn't help any. Annie was sleeping when Ina opened the packet and Ina wondered if she should speak to her mother. Ina opened the packet and Annie just opened her eyes and said, "Charlie" and then said "Hello Charlie." When the doctor called the next day, Annie said to let him see what she got by post the night before; she said it did her more good that all the pills he had given her. The doctor couldn't get over it.

Also, "Granda (William) Munro never lived at Primrose Cottage it was after he died that Grandma moved up there when J. Sime married Jessie Munro and Primrose belonged to Antie Maggie (Wilson) at that time and Gma paid her a rent and Aunt M. kept the garden for hersel (herself), and a while before that it was the Post Office for the Village and up until it was sold the Post Office door was still on what was the kitchen then in Grandma time, but it changed hands a lot since then."

    Buried:
BURIAL: According to Rothiemay Register notes taken by Margaret Price, William Munro, resident of Keith, appears to have been buried 7 June 1893, in the Rothiemay Cemetery, in the 3rd row, 105 feet from the church walk.

William married Anne Dustan on 7 Jul 1833 in Cairnie, Aberdeenshire, , Scotland. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 9.  Anne Dustan was born about 1810 in Rothiemay, Banffshire, , Scotland; was christened on 3 Feb 1810 in Grange, , Banffshire, Scotland; died on 28 May 1893 in Keith, , Banff, Scotland; was buried on 31 May 1893 in Rothiemay, Banffshire, , Scotland.

    Notes:

Anne was the daughter of William and Margaret (Wood) Dustan.

Ina Donaldson says in her letter of 3 January 1990 that Grandfather Munro's mother's name was Dustan.

The given name of Ann does not agree with name of Jean, the mother of William Munro, born 12 Jul 1836, and the wife of William Munro christened 27 May 1810. Ann is listed as wife of William Munro, christened 27 May 1810, in each census; a mother in 1861 marriage of William Munro (born 12 Jul 1836) to Margaret Allan; and a mother in 1891 death of William Munro, born 12 July 1836.

Ann did have a sister named Jane Dustan who was born in 1812 just 2 years after Ann. We have not found any marriage records for Jane Macintosh or Jean Dustan relating to William Munro.

Compiled and edited by Allen Alger, Genealogist, Clan Munro Association, USA

    Birth:
    Ann Dustan's birth information comes from the International Genealogical Index/BI from Familysearch.org on the internet and the Scottish Church Records, Births, Grange, Banffshire, Sacramento Family History Center, film: 0990995 and fiche number 6025628;

ANOTHER CONFLICT: On the census records, Ann is listed as being born in Rothiemay. Maybe she was born in Rothiemay and christened in Grange.

Estimate: This birth date is an estimate based on the birth dates of nearest relatives or contemporaries, or based on other clues such as christening date, marriage date, birth order, etc.

    Christened:
CHRISTENING: Grange, 3 Feby. 1810, William Dustan in Clerkseat had a Daughter by his wife Margt. Wood baptized an called Ann. Witnesses John Beneman, Clerkseat; William Meier, Rothiemay.

    Died:
DEATH 1893 Scotland Death Register for Parish of Keith, County of Banff, entry 89, Extract 44011 from General Register Office, Edinburgh: Ann Munro, married to William Munro, retired crofter; died 1893 May Twenty eighth, 1 h. 20 m. S. Turner M. D., Keith; Informant, (sighed) George McKay, son-in-law (present); Registered 1893 May 30, at Keith by James Kilman, Registrar.

    Buried:
BURIAL: According to Rothiemay Register notes taken by Margaret Price, Ann (Ann Munro), resident of Keith, appears to have been buried 31 May 1893, in the Rothiemay Cemetery, in the 3rd row, 103 feet from the church walk.

    Notes:

    Married:
MARRIAGE: Cairney 7th July 1833; William Monro and Anne Dustan both lately residing in this parish having contracted bonds of matrimony & consigned pledges were regularly proclaimed.

Marriage listed on Old Parochial Records for Cairney by Huntly, Aberdeen, Scotland. Sacramento Family History Center, Film: 0993482.

COMMENT: This appears to be the record of the marriage of the parents of William Munro (born 13 July 1836). The location is at least reasonable, and the husband's name (except spelling of Monro) agrees with the father's name listed in the christening record for William Munro.

CONFLICTS The nameAnne Dustan, does not agree with the name of Jean Dustan Listed on William's christening record. The date of 7 July1833, is only 5 months before the birth of their first child, Margaret Munro.

MORE COMMENTS: It appears that William Munro (1810-1893) had children by Jane Macintosh, Jean Dustan and Ann Dustan. The name of Ann or Anne shows up many more times than the others. In fact, Jane and Jean show up only once each. Ann did have a sister named Jane Dustan who was born in 1812, just 2 years after Ann. We have not found any marriage records for Jane Macintosh or Jean Dustan relating to William Munro.
