| 12. | Josiah Munroe was born on 12 Feb 1745 in Lexington, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts, USA (son of Marrett Munroe and Deliverance Parker); died in in Marietta, Washington Co., Ohio, USA. Notes:
Josiah was in the French War of 1762. He also served in the Jersey's for three months in 1776 and had the rank of Captain in the Revolution, serving two and a half years in the Continental Line.
According to the inscription on his monument, he "became the friend of Lafayette, who recognized his services in the gift of a sword." He was an original member of the Society of the Cincinnati, and was one of the 48 pioneers who, under General Rufas Putnam, settled the Northwest Territory, the first settlement being Marietta, Ohio, where he was the first justice of the peace and the second postmaster.
He settled in Amherst, New Hampshire, about 1777 and moved to Marietta, Ohio in 1788, where he and his wife died.
