  2. 3.  Phebe Munro was born on 3 Apr 1783 in Bristol, Bristol Co., Rhode Island, USA (daughter of Edward Munro and Sarah Hoar); died on 18 Apr 1862 in Cumberland, Providence Co., Rhode Island, USA; was buried in Oak Hill Cem, Woonsocket, Rhode Island.

    Notes:

    Her first husband, Joseph, was lost at sea.

    Her second husband was Rev. Palmer Brown. He may have been born in Kingston, Rhode Island instead of Woonsocket. He was ordained a Methodist Minister, but later came under the influence of Bishop Griswold and became an Episcopal Minister in charge of several parishes before his death. Rev. Brown's death was caused by exposure from visiting the sick during a cold stormy night.

    One reference has Palmer being married to a Mary Armstrong and lists the same children as we have listed for Palmer and Phebe.

    Phebe and Palmer moved to Woonsocket, Rhode Island in 1834. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Woonsocket 1844-1845.

    She died at the age of 79. The cause of death was "Congestion of Brain".

    Edward was Vestryman at St. Michaels Church, in Bristol. He and his brother, James were the third of six generations to hold that position for 156 years.

    Senate document of the first session of the 23rd Congress, Vol. XII. Pension Roll 1833 & 1834. Rhode Island Roll page 23. Edward Munro Private Bristol County annual allowance $63.33. Since received $140. Rhode Island Militia, placed on roll 22 Aug 1832. Aged 87 years. Pension Act, 7 Jun 1832.

    Edward is listed as being buried in two different cemeteries: North Cemetery, and East Cemetery in Bristol, Rhode Island.

    Ref 4 says Edward was born in May 1747. Refs 4 and 5 say Edward died 15 Mar 1835.

"Representative Men and Old Families of Rhode Island" Vol. III (1908) gives her birth date as 22 Feb 1742. One reference gives her death date as 22 Sep 1827, but her gravestone says 27 Aug 1826. She is also listed as being buried in two different cemeteries: North Cemetery, and East Cemetery in Bristol, Rhode Island.

    Ref (1) says Bennett was born 7 Oct 1708 and died 25 Oct 1775. Refs (2) and (3) say he was born 1 or 7 Oct 1708.

    Captain Bennett Munro lived for sometime at the Munro place on the corner of Hope and Franklin Streets, Bristol, Rhode Island, but for the greater part of his life, he lived on the Mt. Hope Farm (now Church's) then owned by Isaac Royal of Boston. Royal was a Tory and his property was confiscated in the Revolution and purchased from the state by Gov. Bradford.

    Bennett was Vestryman at St. Michaels Church, Bristol, Rhode Island. He was the second of six generations to hold that position.

    Ref (3) says that all of Bennett's children came from his first marriage to Sarah Bosworth, but Ref (2) says Bosworth died in 1754.
