    Notes:

    The Rev. Angus Bethune, A.M., was the eldest son of the Rev. John Bethune, minister of Glenshiel 1730-1781, and his wife, Christian (Macleod) Bethune.

    Angus graduated from the University and King's College in Aberdeen on 2 Apr 1764, and went on to study at Edinburgh. He was licensed by the Presbytery of Gairloch on 8 Oct 1766, and ordained to Harris on 23 Aug 1768. He was transferred to Alness on 25 Jul 1771 and admitted on 25 Sep. He got a new church built at Alness in 1780.

    For some time, he served as Chaplain of the 71st Foot.

  1. 14.  Andrew Munro was born about 1724 in Of, Limlair, Scotland (son of George Munro, Of Limlair and Catherine Munro); died about 1809 in Prob., Alness, Scotland.

    Notes:

    Andrew took part in a riot which occurred in Dingwall in 1721, and was obliged to go into exile. He went to the Netherlands and joined the Scottish Brigade there. He proved himself to be a very efficient and able soldier and rose to the rank of Colonel and Brigadier of his regiment, commanding it throughout the war between Holland and France.

    The Scotish Brigade, as such, was disbanded and taken into the service of Great Britain when Colonel Andrew Munro retired in 1793. Andrew returned home and took up residence with his son-in-law, the Rev. Angus Bethune, in the manse of Alness, where he died about 1809.
