Notes:

Dennis and his father ran a stable business in Winchester, Massachusetts. When his father retired in 1888, Dennis took on Daniel Kelly as a partner. For years, this stable has done a profitable and popular trade with an extensive class of patrons. Around the stable, order and promptness were the rule.

He had been schooled in economy and industry to earn and save by his mother, and the credit of his firm was the best.

Dennis married Mary Louisa Baker on 11 Oct 1876. Mary was born on 26 Mar 1858 in Winchester, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts, USA; died on 7 Jul 1941 in Winchester, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Mary was the daughter of Frederick and Mary Louisa (Eaton) Baker of Winchester, Massachusetts.

She was a lifetime member of the Winchester Baptist Church. She was politically active as a Republican and was a member of the Fortnightly Women's Club, W.C.T.U. and the Women's Republican Club.

Her favorite leisure activities were bridge, church activities and various clubs.

Her husband died before their last chld was born. She brought up six children without a husband, educated them and her obituary said, "She had a pleasing personality, endearing her to all whith whom she came in contact."

Notes:

Alanson moved to Winchester, Massachusetts in about 1853. He ran an express team to Boston for some years. He continued in the same business with Edmund Sanderson as a partner for a few years and then took over the whole business.

He bought a stable business which he ran with his son, Dennis, until he retired in 1888.

Alanson married Elizabeth Buckman on 4 May 1841 in Woburn, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts, USA. Elizabeth (daughter of Dennis Buckman and Ruth Brown Richardson) was born on 11 May 1822 in Woburn, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts, USA; died in in Winchester, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts, USA. Elizabeth was a housewife and it was said of her, "she was a smart and genial lady of business and ability."

She married Alanson Winn, the son of Moses Winn and probably Fanny (Nichols) Winn, but possibly Sally (Johnson) Winn. Both were wives of Moses Winn.

Alanson and his partner, Edmund Sanderson, ran an express team to Boston from Winchester. After a few years, Alanson continued alone until he bought the whole business and stable where he remained until 1888 when he retired.
