  1. 2.  Richard Allen Monroe was born on 11 Jan 1834 in Milo, Piscataquis Co., Maine, USA (son of Allen Munroe and Mary W. Furber); died on 17 May 1889.

    Notes:

    Richard served as a soldier in the American Civil War under Captain John Sampson. He was wounded in the first battle of Bull Run by a gunshot through the leg. He was taken prisoner and lodged in Alens House in Richmond, Virginia. After a prisoner exchange, he was granted a furlough home because of his injury. He was later examined in Washington and granted a discharge.

  1. 4.  Allen Munroe was born on 30 Dec 1804 (son of John Munroe and Mary Bisbee Keene); died on 16 Jun 1893 in Milo, Piscataquis Co., Maine, USA.

    Notes:

    Allen lived in Milo, Maine on the plot now occupied by the Methodist Church. At that time, this lot extended to Pleasant Street. The present Baptist Church property was sold from this original lot. Allen also owned considerable real estate at different times. One piece of his property was the square where the residence of Fred M. Strout is now located. It extended around and through what was the Dr. Hamlin estate, and is now the Dr. Snow estate.

    Allen was a trader and conducted business in Milo. He later moved to California where he remained for a time, but later returned to Milo where he raised his family.

    The last name of his first wife may have been Ferber.

    His fourth wife was the widow of Dr. Chester Huckins.

    Notes:

    John was in the Revolutionary War on board a privateer. In 1790 he came from Boston in a sloop as far as Falmouth, Maine and then walked to Livermore, Maine. He told his children that when he reached Livermore, only a King's shilling was in his purse.

    His lot, no. 39, was just east of Abel's and he built a log house near a spring of water in the orchard northeast of several buildings which were erected in 1801.
