Notes:

Richard served as a soldier in the American Civil War under Captain John Sampson. He was wounded in the first battle of Bull Run by a gunshot through the leg. He was taken prisoner and lodged in Alens House in Richmond, Virginia. After a prisoner exchange, he was granted a furlough home because of his injury. He was later examined in Washington and granted a discharge.

Richard married Nancy B. Adams on 1 May 1866. Nancy was born on 20 Dec 1843 in Of, Lincoln, Maine, USA; died on 14 Jan 1877. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Nancy was the daughter of Erastus and Octavia (Cushman) Adams of Lincoln, Maine.

Notes:

Allen lived in Milo, Maine on the plot now occupied by the Methodist Church. At that time, this lot extended to Pleasant Street. The present Baptist Church property was sold from this original lot. Allen also owned considerable real estate at different times. One piece of his property was the square where the residence of Fred M. Strout is now located. It extended around and through what was the Dr. Hamlin estate, and is now the Dr. Snow estate.

Allen was a trader and conducted business in Milo. He later moved to California where he remained for a time, but later returned to Milo where he raised his family.

The last name of his first wife may have been Ferber.

His fourth wife was the widow of Dr. Chester Huckins.

Allen married Mary W. Furber. Mary was born on 11 Sep 1812 in Framington, , New Hampshire, USA; died on 22 Jan 1834 in Dover, , Maine. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

John was in the Revolutionary War on board a privateer. In 1790 he came from Boston in a sloop as far as Falmouth, Maine and then walked to Livermore, Maine. He told his children that when he reached Livermore, only a King's shilling was in his purse.

His lot, no. 39, was just east of Abel's and he built a log house near a spring of water in the orchard northeast of several buildings which were erected in 1801.
