Notes:

Orvan and his wife moved to Liberty Prairie, Illinois in 1866. They lived there until 1881 when they moved to Whiting, Kansas.

Orvan worked in the cattle business and was the owner of a large livestock farm in Kansas. In his later years, his son, Roy, entered the business with him.

He served on the local school board for many years. He helped organize the local telephone company and served as its president for a long time. He belonged to the Methodist Episcopal Church and served as a trustee for many years. He was prominent in the local political activities, and was an active and progressive leader. He had a large circle of friends and was held in high esteem by them.

Orvan married Ruth Maria Nutter on 18 Feb 1866. Ruth was born on 17 Sep 1844 in Tuftonborough, New Hampshire, USA; died on 24 Jun 1905 in Whiting, Kansas, USA; was buried in Whiting, Kansas, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Hiram tore down part of the house that his father had built in Hillsborough, New Hampshire and built a fine two story structure, made of red bricks which were cast on the property. The house was still standing in 1966 and in good condition.

Hiram married Ruth Keyes on 26 Dec 1839. Ruth was born on 25 Aug 1809; died on 20 Mar 1848 in Hillsborough, Hillsborough Co., New Hampshire, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

During the American Revolution, Thaddeus served in Captain Hale's company, Colonel Gerrish's regiment which joined the Northern Continental army in Sep 1777. In the returns his name was given as Rowe. He was also in the Battle of Bunker Hill.

He built a wooden home between 1775 and 1781 in Hillsborough, New Hampshire. His son, Hiram tore down part of the wooden structure and erected a fine two- story house built of red bricks which were cast on the property. This house was still standing in 1966 and in good condition.

Thaddeus was tall, broad-shouldered, stern and firm as the rock-ribbed hills of Concord End, Hillsborough, New Hampshire. He was a man of few words and could always be counted on where a good man was needed. He was one of the leading politicians of the town.

Besides being a farmer, he was also noted as a good bridge builder. These bridges were built of stone, dry construction, arched and earth filled. Some of them were still in use in 1966.

When he was 71 years old he was invited, with twenty-one others, all who served in the Revolution, to the home of Benjamin Pierce on 26 Dec 1825. It was Benjamin Pierce's sixty-seventh birthday.

One reference records his birth as 1750 in Billerica, Massachusetts. His gravestone says he died 22 Nov 1828 - age 76.
