    Notes:

    John Munro of Tearivan and his wife, Janet, had other daughters in addition to those listed.

    After 1695, John purchased the lands of Tearivan in the parish of Kiltearn. He was an elder in the Church and took a great interest in the poor of the parish.

    John before after 11 Jun 1705.

    When he died, he left 500 merks to be distributed among the poor who feared the Lord. A mortcloth was purchased with this money and the dues for its use was distributed to the poor.

    He also left 500 merks to "erect an aisle for his burial place" and for enlarging the Kirk.

    Married (1) John Mackay, eldest son of Murdoch Mackay of Achness. They had one son, William, who was Minister of Dornoch from 1690 to 1694 and of Cromdale from 1694 to 1700. John Mackay died shortly after the death of his son, William, and his widow, Christian, then married Robert Munro III of Milnton of Katewell.

    At a meeting of the Privy Council held on the 27th of March, 1612, a commission under the Signet is granted to Robert Munro of Fowlis, Alexander Gordon, brother to John Earl of Sutherland, John Munro of Limlair, George Munro of Tarlogie, and Andrew Munro of Novar, to convocate the lieges for the apprehension of two men charged with stealing "a fair dun ox of six year old" from George Munro of Tarrell, and bringing the alleged thieves before the Council to be delivered to the Justice for trial.

George Monro, who had a grant in 1574 from James VI., before his brother Hugh had his for seven years "for his education at school" of the Chaplainry of Tarlogie, "vacant by the demission of Master George Monro, who was promoted to the Chancellary of Ross" ("Origines Parochiales Scotia," vol. ii. p. 423.) --his own uncle George Munro, progenitor of the Monros of Allan, and several other well-known families of whom presently. There is a sasine dated the 1st of February, 1632, on a charter by George Munro of Tarlogie to Alexander Ross of Pitkerie, John Ross, burgess of Tain, and Christian Munro, goodwife of Little Tarrell, their mother, of the wester half of Teachamhach.     George must have been dead before 1649, for on the 30th of May, in that year, there is a sasine on a charter by Thomas Ross of Priesthill with consent of Mr David Munro, minister at Tain, and Donald Munro, eldest lawful son of the late George Munro of Tarlogie, to Alexander Gray of Ospisdale of the twon and lands of Tarlogie.     Hugh of Catwall married Janet daughter to Hector Munro of little Altas by whom he had Hector Robert John Alexander.

    Presumably Hugh of Milton of Katewell; Daniel brother of Robert portioner of Katewell 1659 was perhaps another son. On Hector of Little Altas, spouses Elizabeth Mackenzie and Christine Munro, and son John fiar of Little Altas who m Margaret Calder.

    Received Milton of Katewell Estates from father Hector; passed them to his son Robert.

    Alexander's wife, Janet Cummings (or Cumming) was the daughter of James Cumming and Margaret (Fraser) Cumming. Margaret was the daughter of Hugh Fraser, 5th Lord Lovat and a descendant of English and Scottish royalty including Robert II King of Scots, James IV King of Scots, King Edward III of England and King Henry VII of England.

    Minister of Durness from 1620 to 1653. Translated the Psalms into Gaelic and turned other portions of Bible into rhyme which were known as "Sandy Munro's verses."

    Alexander, the 'poet preacher' of Durness in Sutherland whose Gaelic translations of Bible passages were long remembered as 'Sandy Munro's verses', had taught in Strathnaver.
    Alexander served as minister of Durness 1620-1633. It is said that when Alexander began his ministry, that the people were almost heathens, but that he had great success in reforming them.

    He translated large sections of the Bible into Gaelic including the four Gospels and most of the Psalms. He also turned many Bible verses into rhyme, which became known as Sandy Munro's verses. He also composed several original Gaelic poems.

    He died before 22 Dec 1653.
