    Notes:

Dr. Thomas Monro adopted the spelling Monro out of respect for the famous anatomist, Dr. Alexander Monro, Primus and probably also for his son, Dr. Alexander Monro, Secondus both of Edinburgh Medical School during the lifetime of Dr. Thomas Munroe. He was surgeon's assistant in the French and Indian War, served in the Revolutionary War, was taken prisoner and carried to England on the Prison Ship "Jersey". At times, he was called Captain Thomas.

Because he gave medical care to an officer's daughter, he was released and returned to New England with gifts of silver tankards and silver shoe buckles given to him in appreciation.

He moved from Concord, Massachusetts to Bristol, Rhode Island before 1762 and began a medical practice there.

He died in Stonington, Connecticut while visiting a friend and was buried there. In 1900, his great-granddaughter, Lydia M. Cooke [6934] of Bristol, Rhode Island, had his remains brought to her family lot in Juniper Hill Cemetery.

In 1987, Clara Monroe Smith donated some medical instruments that were used by Thomas Monro to the Clan Munro (Association) in Scotland.
