Frederick got another position as accountant with Steubing-Cowan Lift truck Company. This company was bought by the Yale & Towne Manufacturing Company during the depression. Because of this buy-out, the family was moved to Philadelphia at the expense of the new company.

After World War II, Frederick retired to tend his 5-acre orchard in Abington by Foxchase in Philadelphia. He later moved to Marshfield, Vermont.

Late in life, Frederick moved to Vermont to enjoy the scenery and air there. After spending several years in Marshfield, Vermont, he died at the hospital in Barre, Vermont during a record snowstorm.
