| 10. | John Piper Monroe was born on 4 Jul 1804 in Of, Barren Co., Kentucky (son of John Monroe and Rachel); died on 2 May 1890 in Tompkinsville, Kentucky. Notes:
John and his family are found on the 1850 census of Barren County, Kentucky. At that time he was a merchant with $600 in property.
During the Civil War, guerillas came to his home to kill him. He was saved by hiding. His daughters told the guerillas that their mother had recently died and begged them to leave him alone.
In 1866, John served as postmaster in Tompkinsville, Kentucky.
In 1870, he was a farmer living in Monroe County, Kentucky.
John lived for many years near Tompkinsville, Kentucky. He died at his daughter's home in Tompkinsville. He had a cancer on his face when he died. It was believed that it was caused by a mole which he often cut while shaving.
