Generation: 1
1. | Jane Munro was born on 8 Mar 1817 in , , Nova Scotia, Canada (daughter of James Munro and Helen McKay); died in 1865. Notes:
One reference says Jane died in 1865 at age 42. This fact is at odds with the recorded birth date. She was a dressmaker, with no known marriage.

2. | James Munro was born on 22 Mar 1786 (son of Alexander Munro and Margaret Anderson); and died. Notes:
James moved to Golspie, Sutherland, Scotland in about 1800. It is some 20 miles north of Dornock on the Dornock Firth and North of Dingwall and Foulis Castle.
He married Helen McKay, who may have been the daughter of Findlay MacKay. They emmigrated to Pictou, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1815 and eventually settled in New Annan, Nova Scotia. James wrote a note on a letter of recommendation he had which said "Left Elgin March 1815", the same date he left Golspie. Elgin, Moray-Shire may have been his old home or where the ship left for Nova Scotia.
Upon arriving in Nova Scotia, James' family is listed as "Munro James, To Pictou, Co, NS, 1815; res. Pictou Town, 1816. Joiner, married with 1 child." (A joiner would be called a carpenter today.)
Helen's obituary of 1856 reads: "Died suddenly at New Annan, on the evening of the 5th inst. in the 69 year of her age. HELEN, the beloved wife of James Munro, Esq, Elder of the Presbyterian Church. She left a dejected family, and a large circle of friends and acquaintances to regret her unexpected demise. Mrs. Munro was native of the Parish of Dornoch, Scotland, emigrating to Pictou with her husband in 1815, and moved to New Annan in 1817. The deceased ranked among the noble pioneers of the wilderness, conducted by the energy of her character to the cultivation of the forest and bore much of the heat and of the burden of the day. She was remarkably distinguished in principal, staling integrity, noble independence, warm and kindly emotions. She was a prominent benefactor in the community in which she lived. She was early influenced with religion, was a member of the church for many years, cherished a the ordinance of the gospel. -- New Annan, September 8, 1856"
