  1. 1.  William P. Monroe was born in 1828 in , Scott Co., Indiana, USA (son of Randal Monroe and Mary); died in 1875 in , Scott Co., Indiana, USA.

    Notes:

William may have been born in Jefferson County, Indiana. One reference gives his marriage date at 20 Sep 1847 and says he died in 1872/3 in Jefferson County, Indiana.

In 1850, he was a carpenter living with his family in Frankford, Indiana.

He served in Company P, 9th Regiment, Indiana Volunteers, in the Civil War.

In 1880, his wife (widow?), Emily (or Mary) Carr was living with the younger children in Jennings, Indiana. Her granddaughter, Lunetta, was also living with her at that time. Emily was the daughter of Thomas and Elvira (Parker) Carr.

On Sep 1886, Emily was judged insane. It took two men to control her. She was home again in 1887. She died after 1900.

William and Emily had nine children, but only three were living in 1900. Two of her children, Ruth Monroe and Pleasent B. Monroe may have been from a previous marriage.

    Notes:

Randal was born in North Carolina, Kentucky or Rutherford County, Missouri.

He served as a private in the 6th Regiment, Indiana Militia, in Captian Willis Sticken's Company. He enlisted on 27 Jan 1813 and was discharged on 26 Feb 1813.

In 1846, he moved from Jefferson County to Scott County, Indiana.

He signed a deed in Washington County, Indiana. He and Mary divorced at Lexington, Indiana on 25 Aug 1848. William, Thomas, Nancy Jane and Charles were under 21 and living with their mother at the time, but the divorce record says that they had 12 children. The record also shows that Randal owned land in Jefferson County, Indiana.

In the divorce decree, Mary accused Randal of abandoning her of not supporting her and their four minor children. There are also accusations that Randal beat her and maligned her reputation in the community.

The 1850 census says that Mary was a widow living in Vienna, Indiana with her children, Isaac and Nancy Jane, but Randal was still living at the time. They were divorced.

Mary wife died after 1850, and Randal died after 1867 probably either in Jefferson County, or Washington County, Indiana.

Some references say Randal was the son of William [1878].

  1. 8.  George Monroe was born in 1708 in , Albemarle Co., Virginia, USA (son of Capt. Andrew Monroe and Christian M. Tyler); died on 24 Mar 1789 in , Rutherford Co., North Carolina, USA.

    Notes:

In 1752, in Albemarle County, Virginia, he was the administrator of the will of his father-in-law, Arthur Osborn.

He was from Rutherford County, North Carolina and owned land in North Carolina and Kentucky. He lived in Mercer, Franklin and Shelby Counties, Kentucky.

He may have been a soldier in the Revolutionary War and possibly fought at the Battle of Kings Mountain in North Carolina.

George's will dated 24 Aug 1784 (codicil dated 24 Mar 1789) names his wife, Ann Osborn; children Margaret, Isabelle Barnett, Jannett Jones, Arter Monroe, Ann Wilson, William Phillip, Osborn, Mary, and John Monroe. The codicil names his granddaughter, Ann, William's daughter. It was proved in Jul 1789 and probated in Rutherford County, North Carolina and witnessed by Thomas Stockton, John Price, David Mowlin and David Stockton.

Ann's estate was divided among 7 legatees, which means she may have been George's second wife. His first wife may have been named Sanders.

The Price and Ellis references say that George is the same person as George [2815]. The Garrigues reference says that George was the son of Capt. Andrew Munroe [201] and a wife to whom he was married before he married Christian Tyler. The Beggs reference says George is the same person as George [3457]. There is obviously a lot of confusion in this area and the correct version is not known to me.
