Alexander married Ellen (or Nellie) Scully and settled in Cloquet, Minnesota. Ellen was the daughter of John and Ruid Scully. The Gergen reference says Ellen was born Jun 1852.

Alexander married Ellen Scully in 1876. Ellen was born on 1 Jan 1851 in Loch Ray, Galway, Ireland; died in 1931 in Omak, Washington. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

1. Robert A. Monroe was born on 7 Oct 1885 in Cloquet, Minnesota; died on 17 Sep 1954 in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
2. Gertrude Ann Monroe was born on 11 Mar 1889 in Cloquet, Minnesota; died on 28 Dec 1988 in Omak, Okanogan Co., Washington, USA.

Notes:

Daniel (or Donald) Munro was born in England or Scotland. Different references disagree on the birthplace but most are probably guesses.

He was a ship captain. He married Mary Ann Bateman in England before 1850. She was the daughter of Bill Bateman. They had three children--two sons and a daughter. Mary Ann brought the children to Iowa in 1855 or 1857 to join her family. The fate of Captain Munroe is not known. He did not go to Iowa with his wife and children.

The Webster reference says his wife, Mary was born in the West Indies and died in Scotland.
