    The following are entries from the Old Parochial Register of Old Machar:

    "Joseph Monro, gardener, Stocket, and his spouse, Elspet Freeman had a son born, named James, baptized by the Revd. Dr. Kidd in presence of the congregation."

    "23rd January, 1853 James Monro, carter Westfield and Janet Carnie, Strawberry Bank both in this parish, signified their purpose of marriage by Mr. Andrew Brown, Elder, and being thrice proclaimed they were married 4th Feb. 1853 by the Revd. William Primrose, minister of Melville Church. Witnesses William Coutts and James Harvey"

    James' wife, Jessie, was sometimes called Janet or Jane.

    James's entire family is found on the 1871 census of Aberdeen at the Pitmuxton address. James is listed as "aged 41, carter and cowfeeder, born Aberdeen." And his wife as "aged 42, born Aberdeen, Drumoak." Along with their 9 children is listed "5 servant/lodgers."

    The following is an entry from the Register of Births, Marriages and Deaths of Old Machar, Scotland:

    "On 4th April, 1878 at Pitmuxton, Aberdeen, Jessie Monro died aged 50; married to James Munro, farmer and the daughter of James Carnie, crofter and Margaret Carnie, maiden surname Cooper, both deceased. Informant: James Monro, widower."

    James' death was caused by senile gangrene of the feet.
