The following is a transcription of RW "Billy" Munro's genealogy notes:
[Alexander Munro] «i»an ingenious & skillful mechanic', promoted from Sgt. to Sub-Lieut. in Royal Sappers & Miners (later Royal Engineers fm 1856), 1 June 1811; invented an engine for nipping lead shot, as inspector of ordnance stores, made improvements in mechanical & intrenching tools; constructed a life-ladder used with success at fires, a mortar-mill, etc, & while at Chatham invented many useful tools, implements, & apparatus; d. Stepney 19 Jan 1834.
