Mackenzie; Captain of castles of Inverness & Chanonry; involved in dispute with Mackenzie etc c 1593 (Ross) died c 1590 (died 25 December, 1611 Calender of Fearn) having married Catherine Urquhart of Cromarty (died 1610) with issue: George (died 1623); Andrew (Kincraig), John (Fearn, died 1626), Janet (married (1) David Monro, (2) Hector Munro of Foulis (died 1603)); Catherine (married George Munro of Obsdale), Euffem (married Hugh Munro of Balcony, Jean married Oliver Gordon of Ballone and six other daughters. He married Janet, daughter of James Fraser, I. of Phopachy, whose uncle, John Fraser, was Bishop of Ross from 1485, until his death on the 5th of February, 1507. Her brothers, the Rev. Paul Fraser and the Rev. Almond Fraser, were settled in Rosskeen and Alness respectively, while her brother, John Fraser, progenitor of Dunballoch, was Chamberlain, alter oculus, for their uncle, the Bishop, at Nigg, another brother, Robert, being Chamberlain to the Abbot of Fearn. by her George Munro had issue--

[Andrew Beg Munro] «i»Son of Andrew Monro (died 1501) on record as of Myltown 1503; obtained crown charter of Dochcarty in 1505 and crown charter of Milntown in 1512 and as chief maor of Earldom of Ross acquired many possession; know as "Black Andrew of the Seven Castles'; died at Milntown October, 1519, having married Euphemia Dunbar with issue - George (died 1576), William (of Allan, died circa 1580), Andrew (Culnauld, died 1580); and natural son Thomas. widow married (2) John Malcolmson Mackintosh and (3) Dugall Bane McFarquher vic Coul (Kinrara manuscript).

Andrew married Euphemia, daughter of James Dunbar of Tarbat and Ballone Castle, Easter Ross, son of Sir James Dunbar of Westfield, county of Moray, with issue--

1. George, his heir and successor.

2. William, I. of Allan, of whom presently.

3. Andrew, I. of Culnauld, or Culnaha, of whom in their order.

He died in Milntown Castle "in great extravagance and confusion," before 1522, and was buried in the east end of the Church of Kilmuir-Easter, near the Allan burying-ground. In 1522 William Mackintosh, XIII. of Mackintosh gave John Malcolmson, his nephew, the occupation of Connage of Petty, "that thereby John might get the marriage of Effie Dunbar, relict of Andrew Monroe of Milntown, thinking thereby to reclaim the said John from his loose and wicked courses." ("History of the Mackintoshes and Clan Chattan," p. 184.)

[Andrew Monro] «i»Elder son of John Monro, Tutor of Foulis, (died circa 1475); [built the castle of Milntown and only the vaults remain (1898) at the back of New Tarbat]. Andrew died 1501 having married ----- with at least one son Andrew (died 1519) He or his son Andrew beg may have built the castle of Milntown (Gordon "Earls of Sutherland" p 146) the latter certainly having a 'house' there by 1503 (Foulis Writs # 34) or perhaps builder was George (died 1576).
