Robert is sometimes called Major Robert and sometimes Colonel Robert. Maybe he got a promotion. After his wife died, Robert joined the California gold rush leaving his children in the care of a Mr. Lewis. Mr. Lewis later abandoned the children to also go to California leaving the children with their Aunt Mary. Robert was still alive in Dec. 1851, but was ill with hepatitis. He died in California so the children were raised by their aunt and uncle.

His will went to probate in Jun 1855 with William Monroe as executor.
